The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
